DETAILS

To tie in with LGBT History month, Graffik Gallery has commissioned some of today’s best emerging and established artists – gay and straight - to produce portraits of people who they believe have been an inspiration to the gay community.

This group exhibition will showcase the work of some of today’s best contemporary artists and celebrating figures that have inspired the gay community over the years.

The Collection, 264 Brompton Road, London, SW3 2AS
The artists will be in attendance during the Preview Event.

'Gaze’ will broaden our traditional understanding of portraiture by integrating recognisable, remembered likenesses into explorations of personal and public identity. Portraits of such figures as Marlon Brando, Michelangelo, Marilyn Monroe and Joan Collins serve as triggers of memory for both artist and audience.

The artists’ work investigates the cycles of life, notions of time and change and transition in today's disposable society.

Taking inspiration from movies, record covers and popular culture in general, Gaze will showcase contemporary British art at its best.

The exhibition will be running at www.the-collection.co.uk until 12 March before moving to the Graffik Gallery at 284 Portobello Road, W10 5TE.
